KARBOSOL
Coolant based on potassium carbonate
KARBOSOL is an aqueous coolant with corrosion inhibitors, buffer agents and pH stabilizers based on potassium carbonate.
Potassium carbonate (potite) is used as a food additive and leavening agent in the baking industry and is therefore non-toxic. The coolant is thus well suited for use in the food processing and production industry.
Areas of application include technical and food cooling systems, primarily large-scale process systems or wineries and cellars. The inhibitor system protects steel and, to a limited extent, non-ferrous metals against corrosion.
Product characteristics

KARBOSOL is supplied highly concentrated (specific gravity 1.453 g/cm³) and is adjusted by you to the desired concentration with water that is as free of hardness and chloride as possible. For evaporator pre-runs, at least 5K frost protection must be added. To ensure sufficient inhibitor concentration, we recommend a minimum concentration of 40 vol.%.
KARBOSOL is supplied virtually chloride-free (< 20 mg/l). KARBOSOL must never be mixed with chloride brine, as this will cause gite-like precipitations.
For further application instructions and material compatibility, please refer to the current KARBOSOL product data sheet in our download section.
Frequently Asked Questions
about KARBOSOL
KARBOSOL is a coolant based on potassium carbonate, which is perfectly suited for systems made of iron and structural steels thanks to corrosion inhibitors, buffer agents and pH stabilizers. It is primarily used in food production and processing areas.
KARBOSOL is generally not used as a concentrate, but as an aqueous dilution. The frost protection level can be determined by the proportion of water added. Please refer to the dilution table for the respective frost protection. The water added must be chloride-free.
KARBOSOL does not attack iron and structural steels. Stainless steels are protected as long as the chloride content of the working solution does not exceed 50 mg/l.
Please note the instruction to use chloride-free water.
Non-ferrous metals and aluminum are not protected and may be attacked. Zinc is not resistant. Other materials in contact with the coolant must be alkali-resistant.
KARBOSOL has good storage stability, but like most liquids, it should be stored in a dry place and protected from direct sunlight.
KARBOSOL should be disposed of properly in accordance with legal regulations. Please contact your local waste disposal company for proper disposal of the used coolant. The safety data sheet required for disposal can be found in the download section of our website.
KARBOSOL is available in canisters of 30 or 60 liters, in 220 liter drums, in 1,000 liter IBC (containers) or by road tanker up to 24 t.
